In 1973, the output and revenue of the oil industry grew significantly, lifting Qatar out of the ranks of the world’s poorest and the transformed country into one of the highest-paid militaries in the world.

The safest country in the world

Qatar has been ranked as the safest country in the world for the third time in 2020. Previously, this award was given to Qatar in 2017 and again in 2019.

This fact comes from the Numbeo Crime Index, where Qatar has the lowest score globally. That’s one of the main reasons. That is why so many tourists and former officials are attracted to Qatar.

Qatar Airways is the best airline in the world.

Qatar Airways, the national airline of Qatar, has been named the world’s best airline for three years. It is the only airline that flies passengers to countries on all continents. At one point, Qatar Airways had the longest scheduled flight between Doha and Auckland. It took 16 hours and 30 minutes to complete.

When you arrive in Qatar on its national airline, you’ll experience luxury and comfort like no other.

No forest in Qatar

While the Maldives takes the top spot for being the lowest country on the planet, Qatar is very hot in second place. Therefore, it is a very flat country.

Qatar is one of only six countries worldwide that do not have a single forest on their land. Therefore, most of the trees and green landscapes are artificial. However, there are many beautiful sandy landscapes that you can still enjoy!

The flag of Qatar is unique and has a significant meaning.

The flag looks beautiful, but it also carries a lot of meaning. The nine jagged edges represent Qatar becoming the ninth member of the Emirates to reconcile under a treaty signed with Britain in 1916.

The chestnut colour is known as Qatar maroon or Pantone 1955 C, representing the purple dye industry on the island of Al Khor. The flag is unique because it is the only flag in the world that is twice as wide as it is tall.

99% of Qatar’s population lives in Doha, the capital city

It is partly because much of the country is desert and cannot sustain too much life. The other part is that almost all Qataris are wealthy and can afford to live in the capital.

You can’t bring alcohol into the country.

Qatar is a Muslim country, so it is difficult to get alcohol. It is completely forbidden to bring alcohol into the country. There have been reports of people not being allowed into the country when they are found drunk upon entry.

You can still find it in some places, such as licensed hotel restaurants and bars. Ex-pats in the country can buy alcohol through the license system. Although drinking in public is prohibited, you can choose to drink at your hotel after a long day of sightseeing.

Earlier this year, Qatar implemented a Sin Tax that doubled the price of alcohol overnight. A bottle of gin can cost up to $100 domestically; a $16 beer.

Weekends fall on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday and Sunday are the days we most associate with the weekend, aren’t they? However, in Qatar, their weekend falls on Friday and Saturday.

In Islam, Friday is a lucky day, and many countries, including Qatar, do not work on those days. The working week starts on Sunday and lasts until Thursday.

You don’t need much money to travel to the wealthiest country in the world.

Qatar is a surprisingly easy country to spend in. The food is also relatively cheap. I usually spend about $7 on a meal in Doha – less if I eat street food from a discerning Airstream. So I was surprised to see street food trucks all over Doha selling anything from Chinese dumplings to hot dogs.

Transportation is inexpensive. You’ll pay less than a dollar to get around Doha by bus and maybe $3 or $4 to travel by bus to another city. When it comes to activities, you won’t need to spend a fortune to get in. The excellent Museum of Islamic Art is entirely free to visit, and so is the UNESCO-listed fortress of Al Zubarah. Other free attractions include the beautiful Abdul Wahhab Mosque, the camel races at Al Shahaniya, complete with robes, and the Ras Abrouq Nature Reserve.

Bottom Line: You should plan to spend around QAR633 ($174) per day during your vacation in Qatar, which is the average daily price based on expenses from other customers. Previous travellers spent an average of QAR179 ($49) on daily meals and QAR67 ($19) on local transportation. Also, a couple’s average hotel in Qatar is QAR695 ($191). So a trip to Qatar for two a week costs an average of 8,862 QAR ($2,434). All average travel values are collected from other travel clients to help you plan your travel budget.
